Flasks

Many projects require a special size of flask, making them yourself is a necessity.

A molding flask has four parts:
1.Cope (top)
2. Pattern board (center), removed after the drag is rammed and mold is flipped.
3. Drag (bottom) This half normally has the pins.
4. Bottom Board

Favorite flask sizes (ID):
5″ x 6″ x 1.5″deep cope & 1.5″ drag
12″ x 12″ x 3.5″deep cope & 3.5″ drag
14″ x 20″ x 3.5″deep cope &3.5″ drag

After cutting lumber to the desired length,
cut 1/8″ deep grooves to hold sand in mold.
Attach sections with screws and glue.
Shellac wood (or paint) to prevent moisture
from being robbed from sand.
Bottom boards are made strong, so the mold can be easily picked up and moved to a pouring area.
Guide Pins
4 sections of angled aluminum, 2 carriage bolts/nuts
Drill 3 holes in each angled section. 2 holes attach to wood flask, one hole is for the carriage bolt.
