Bell Casting

Greensand casting is the most economical method to reproduce items in metal.
Just add water and the greensand can be used thousands of times to cast aluminum or other alloys.

Greensand is packed into a "flask". A wood or metal 2-part box. The cope is the top and a drag is the bottom section. A pattern board separates the cope and drag during molding. The mold sits on a bottom board.

A "pattern" is copied to make a casting. The pattern must be smooth and slightly drafted on ALL vertical edges.

The lid on our furnace has a unique shape.
Slots allow you to see inside without looking straight down.
The slots also allow larger scrap to be introduced during melting.
The last reason is a .......secret.
